how do we find a writer for a project?

Posted by ShiraCartoonz - August 4th, 2024

Hello!

I am considering collaborating with a writer so I can get help if I want to make a pilot episode of something (or maybe a comic? who knows!).

But how do we find a writer in general? Where are they if they are available? How does this works in the indie cartoon world?

thank you in advance!

I'm down if it's comedy, I have some demo stuff I can send you (unfinished cartoons and un-adapted scripts)

Maybe start a thread in writing section of NG community hub?

yeah... maybe I should do that eventually, thanks!

I dunno, I'm with Remi on this one; check out this site's writing community. I'm a guy who can give ideas and feedback on writing and I'm aiming to study up on storytelling myself, but I don't have enough experience at the moment to really be *a* writer.

That being said, if you already have a vision for what you want out of your project, read from a wide variety of media — not just stuff you already know you'll like — to get proper inspiration to refine that vision, and get an editor to challenge your ideas so that you can improve upon them. Writing is an iterative process just like any other form of art.

the thing is that I prefer to collab with someone who is more specialised in writing.
It is the better choice to stick in what I am more confortable rather than struggle and be frustrated to write on my own

@ShiraCartoonz Well, at the very least, what genre(s) does your project intend to have? What audience are you targeting? What basic themes or premise do you want to explore? How would you describe your ideas in one or two sentences? I feel that a potential writer would at the very least want you to answer those questions; that way you can find people who are talented in the desired areas. Not every writer will fit every story, after all.

yeah those are excellent questions, I am thinking of all that for a while, also you're making great points, not every writer fits every story for sure... there's beauty in that, but also I hope I will find someone who fits my vision, maybe I overthink too much

@ShiraCartoonz I know the feeling.

It's always important to be able to see a person's catalog of work in a solid vertical slice, so anybody you might be interested in should have a place you can easily access their work for review.
